Oliver, there are just so many memories that we have shared over the last nine years.  What can we say in a paragraph that would encompass the good times that we have shared with you?   You are the dog that we hoped to have one day and the dog that epitomized all we are striving to do. You are a one in a million dog and every bit the Papillon. Your incredible showmanship, type, and fabulous movement are still unequaled.

You accomplished Multiple Best In Show Wins, a myriad of Best In Specialty Wins, and too many group ones and placements to mention.  Just when we thought there was nothing left for you to achieve, you attained your Grand Championship, as a Veteran, undefeated winning five 5-point majors in 5 Shows. Within two months, you had won two Best In Specialty Shows, multiple group placements, a group one and ranking in the top twenty. You are the Only Papillon to win the Group at the Eukanuba Invitational Classic, and one of the only pair of Best In Show littermates in the history of the Papillon Breed. Last but not least, you are a Sire of Distinction. Your children have done so well in the show ring, including Best of Winners at the 2010 National, many group placers, and too many WD or WB at Specialties to count! You are, and always will be, our dog of a lifetime!!!

We are so proud of the response that our Winners/Best of Winners dog, InVolo Smooth Criminal, “Gotti” received.  We have never had so many people congratulate us.  The compliments were endless and very thrilling.  Thank you all for your kind words, you will never know how much they meant to us.  This post would not be complete without a big thank you to Tracy Burdick, Denzel Papillons, for sharing her lovely bitch “Vanna” with us.  Without her help, this litter would not have been possible.  As always, our thanks to his fabulous handler, Gia Garofalo.  Gia, you never break a sweat!

6/7/99 – 8/28/08

From time to time people tell me, “Lighten up, it’s just a dog,” or, “That’s a lot of money for just a dog.” They don’t understand the distance traveled, the time spent or the costs involved for “just a dog.”

Some of my proudest moments have come about with “just a dog.”

Many hours have passed and my only company was “just a dog,” but I did not once feel slighted.

Some of my saddest moments have been brought about by “just a dog,” and, in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of “just a dog” gave me comfort and reason to overcome the day.

If you, too, think it’s “just a dog,” then you will probably understand phases like “just a friend,” “just a sunrise,” or “just a promise.”

“Just a dog” brings into my life the very essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy.

“Just a dog” brings out the compassion and patience that makes me a better person.

Because of “just a dog” I will rise early, take long walks and look longingly to the future.

So for me, and folks like me, it’s not “just a dog” but an embodiment of all the hopes and dreams of the future, the fond memories of the past and the pure joy of the moment.

“Just a dog” brings out what’s good in me and diverts my thoughts away from myself and the worries of the day.

I hope that someday they can understand that it’s not “just a dog” but the thing that gives me humanity and keeps me from being “just a human.”

So the next time you hear the phrase “just a dog.” just smile….because they “just don’t understand.”
